Hole 5 - Perfect Play Explained

This long demanding par 4 is arguably the strongest hole on the Kintyre. As you stand on the tee all you can see is a wall of gorse lining both sides of the fairway. Fairways bunkers right and left, along with an out of bounds fence, help to frame this challenging tee shot. Only an accurate tee shot will find the fairway but the hard work isn't finished yet. A long approach shot of nearly 200 yards must be negotiated next. Three greenside bunkers guard the narrow entrance to the deceptively long green. An ideal second shot should favour the left half of the green as the contours will help to feed the ball back to the centre of the putting surface. It is however easy to leave a difficult two put on this green and a two putt par at the 5th is always a good story.
