The fun-packed Wee Explorers playroom, situated in the main building of the hotel, is open on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am - 4pm. For children over three, parents will be able to leave their young explorers under the supervision of a qualified team for only £5 per hour. The playroom is packed with toys, games and books as well as an arts and crafts area.
In addition, children aged 8 - 12 can enjoy a variety of activities at Turnberry:
LITTLE TURNBERRY FARMER
Follow in the footsteps of a real farmer and become a little Turnberry Farmer as you make your way around the farm to feed the horses, calves and sheep. Merc, our friendly collie dog, will join you as you see how a farm works in real life. Wellington boots and suitable over clothing is also provided.
Private sessions - £60 for two hours and thirty minutes with an experience guide, includes a pony ride and quad biking experience.
BUDDY FOR THE DAY
You want to enjoy a relaxing break. Your children want to have some fun. Here at Turnberry everyone can get their own way. Over four or six hours, our Buddy for the Day programme will take your children horse riding or quad biking. We can offer your children the thrill of target shooting practice. All activities are fully supervised by an experienced guide. Refreshments are included.
£95 for 4 hours, £120 for 6 hours per child
Activities are dependent on age. 8 years plus
QUAD BIKING
This activity is designed for children over 10 years old. The quad is shared with an experienced guide to ensure that the fun is never out of control. Session can be shared between children (sharing one quad). If children are sharing a session they must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian to supervise the child who is not on the quad.
£35 per hour. Suitable for children over 10 years old.
KITE FLYING
Kite flying is a fun activity for all. Learn how to assemble and fly a beautiful kite in the great outdoors. See how it floats through the sky, learn a trick or two from an experienced guide and as a wee memento, take your kite home with you. Your new hobby will be the envy of all your friends!
£30 per hour
HORSE RIDING
Fun exercise, fresh Scottish air and wonderful scenery; these are the ingredients that make horse riding here in Ayrshire so enjoyable. Based at the Turnberry stables, you can choose from a variety of activities including trekking, hacking and beach riding on the rugged West Coast. Indeed, Turnberry's very own beach allows for invigorating rides and breathtaking views.
Recommended rides:
1 ½ hours - £35 per person
Suitable for beginners to experienced riders, enjoy a hack from the stables through the grounds of the Resort to Turnberry beach. Once on the beach guests can trot or canter dependant on their experience.
2 hours - £50 per person
From the stables walk through Maidens to Culzean Country Park for a walk around the grounds and then back to the stables. This ride is not suitable for beginners.
3 ½ hours - £65 per person
From the stables through Maidens to Culzean. Walk through the grounds and beyond to Croy beach. Lunch or refreshments can be ordered for a break at Croy beach (not included in the price of the ride and must be booked in advance). This ride is not suitable for beginners. Last booking is 2pm.
Suitable for children 8 years plus, but not for beginners
PONY TIME
Make friends with one of our beautiful ponies and spend some quality time learning the basics of grooming, saddling up and the overall care of these fine animals. Once you have mastered the basics, take your new friend out riding on the Turnberry estate accompanied by one of our grooms. The perfect experience for a budding horse enthusiast.
£60 for 2 hours & 30 minutes. Suitable for riders of all abilities.
ARCHERY
One of the oldest sports known to man, archery is exciting and elegant. If you're a beginner, our expert guide will help you get those arrows flying towards their target, if you're an old hand then you'll enjoy fresh challenges here at Turnberry.
£35 per person for 1 hour. Suitable for adults and children over 8 years.
Maximum 6 guests.
RIFLE TARGET SHOOTING
Get to grips with the latest in recoilless, gas operated target rifles in a session conducted by our experienced guides. Aiming at a range of specially designed targets, this is a great introduction to rifle shooting.
£35 per 45 minutes. Suitable for adults and children over 8 years.
FALCONRY INTRODUCTORY LESSON
Ideal for those who haven't experienced the thrill of falconry before, this introductory lesson provides practical experience in handling and flying a Harris Hawk and Owl. You'll learn fundamental falconry skills, including the falconers knot and discover what the jesses, leash and swivel are for and why our birds are weighed on a daily basis. This lesson also involves casting the bird into nearby woodland and calling it back to the fist for food, includes basic safety techniques and can be taken on an individual or group basis. In this session we use the beautiful, easy to handle Harris Hawk from Central America and the Arizona desert. However if you prefer to fly owls, we'll give you a day you'll never forget, with a choice of birds including the wonderful Barn Owl and Snowy Owl.
Max 5 participants, £75 for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Suitable for adults and children over 8 years.
THE WEE OWL EXPERIENCE
Give your child the insight into the world of owls with this great falconry taster. Meet "Moby" the owl and friends and learn why these incredible birds are so special. Watch as they take flight and return to our experienced guides. There is even the opportunity to hold your very own owl if you wish.
£45 for a 1 hour experience.
TROUT ANGLING
Few things could be more pleasurable than a day spent on a picturesque Scottish loch. Using either your own rod or one of ours, you can enjoy fishing on our own two and a half acre spring-fed loch, stocked with rainbow and brown trout. Our ghillies will share their impeccable local knowledge and can even help you brush up your technique. The loch is suitable for fly fishing and rainwear is supplied if required. Furthermore, one of Turnberry's chefs would be delighted to cook your catch for dinner.
£50 per person for 2 hours including a ghillie.
GOLF LESSONS
Where better to start your budding golfer off that The Colin Montgomerie Links Golf Academy at Turnberry. The Academy has a variety of lesson options suitable for our junior players, from the 3 Day Junior School to an introductory 30 minute lesson. Let you budding young chefs join the brigade in the Turnberry kitchens for the chance to make their own pizza for their supper, before sitting to dine in Turnberry's most exclusive location, The Chef's Table.
