This ancient sport of kings is truly a remarkable spectacle to behold. And here at Turnberry, you'll experience these magnificent birds of prey at close quarters in their natural surroundings. This exhilarating activity allows you to witness the striking beauty and splendid flight of these peerless predators.

 

Whether in the grounds of Turnberry's beautiful estate or in the stunning outlying moors and fields, this majestic pursuit is an unforgettable experience. 

 

The falconry centre houses a range of birds including Eagles, Owls, Hawks, Buzzards and Falcons.

Introductory lesson

Ideal for those who haven't experienced the thrill of falconry before, this introductory lesson provides practical experience in handling and flying a Harris Hawk and Owl. You'll learn fundamental falconry skills, including the falconers knot and discover what the jesses, leash and swivel are for and why our birds are weighed on a daily basis. This lesson also involves casting the bird into nearby woodland and calling it back to the fist for food and includes basic safety techniques and can be taken on an individual or group basis.

 

In this session we use the beautiful, easy to handle Harris Hawk from Central America and the Arizona desert. However if you prefer to fly owls, we'll give you a day you'll never forget, with a choice of birds including the wonderful Barn Owl and Snowy Owl.

Max 5 participants, £75 for 1hr 30min
Suitable for adults and children over 8 years.
